Those of you who have followed our progress of building this resort will know our core value is about a celebration of Costa Rica - the natural beauty of green space and abundance of wildlife.
Paradise Still Takes Work
Although Costa Rica is far more developed than most Central American countries, it is still very limited in what's available here, certainly in the Guanacaste region. Therefore it would normally mean a 5-hour trip for us to San Jose, a one night stop with a shopping list as long as your arm, racing against the clock (and the crazy traffic of the capital) to gather all items needed. Then, to head back the next morning on the single lane road with hope that no tree has fallen or truck overturned that would make a 10-hour return journey - quite frankly - a hideous experience.
Or, there is always importing which means your either lucky to get it at all or you pay the earth in import taxes.
These limitations have been a blessing for us, strengthening our desire to approach this project in a more personal and creative way, taking up-cycling / recycling to a whole new level. Problem solving on an hourly basis and accepting compromise are skills we’ve enhanced on in the 6 months we’ve owned Libelula.
(Im sure if we had all those household shops at our fingertips, a few more ‘purchased’ items would have slipped through the doors of Libelula!)
And so, our little green oasis, where plants and wildlife share our space, is dressed with some weird and wonderful pieces that have helped created the essence of this handcrafted resort.
It Takes a Village (literally)
Of course, we could not have done it without the help of many other passionate and creative people. I would like to introduce over the next few blogs those who have made it possible for the success of our project.
